Does lifes destination matter?
Hundreds of quotes about journeys have been passed down through the ages...
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." Lao Tzu
"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." Greg Anderson
"Success is not a place at which one arrives but rather the spirit with which one undertakes and continues the journey." Alex Noble
Many of them de-emphasize the destination and focus on the journey, making the journey the more important aspect. But what about the destination?
We're not on a road-trip in this life. At some point, there will be an end. That end is very important. I believe that while there is an end to this life, we do continue on after that physical death. That particular destination is very important.
Some believe in reincarnation. Some believe we just stop existing. Some believe in a variety of different 'heavens', but no hell. Some might even believe there is no heaven, just hell. And many believe in a heaven that opposes a hell.
I believe we are created beings. Created for the purpose of serving the Creator. I believe He loves us. I believe that we can do nothing good without Him.
Did you read that? I believe I can do nothing good without Him.
This is the start of a Journey. It's a journey about reaching a certain destination. You might be imagining that road trip, where I'm in the drivers seat, with that destination in mind and a road map all marked out to get me there.
It's not. I'm a passenger. I'm along for the ride and at this point, I know I'll get there because God is the driver. I imagine there will be road blocks and bumps and flat tires and all sorts of trials. I've already seen them, been through a few. Can you believe I view them as a blessing? Imagine an anvil and I'm the metal being tempered and shaped into the tool that God needs to further His kingdom. It hurts. It's difficult. But nothing is insurmountable for Him.
That's just the thing. I've come to realize that I am entirely incapable. I can't drive this car. I am incapable of even reaching out to receive His gift of grace and salvation. He even has to do that for me.
I hope to touch on a number of different topics in this blog. They'll all revolve around the new and ever expanding things I know I'll learn about that journey. If you read this and have questions or would like to look into a different topic, please feel free to reply about it.
The journey is important, very important, but the destination is even more important.
